Brown Hair PowderTresemme Fresh Start Dry Sha Size: 5.7 oz

(right: Fat Hair down: Tresemme left: Bumble and bumble)
Dry shampoo never seemed like a major necessity to me, I wash my hair religiously every morning and have never had much of a problem otherwise. However after hearing hearing much buzz about Tresemme's Fresh Start Dry Shampoo I bought a bottle for safety. It remained untouched for quite a while until one day I overslept and had little time to do much except throw some clothes and mascara on. After using the spray, just as the bottle said to, I have to say my hair did look great, but I still could never go a full day with it in my hair. Why? Because although it looked newly washed my hair felt disgusting and I couldn't help keep scratching it and feel as though it looked terrible.

Recently, I found a much more suitable way to use it ~ my bangs. I have full bangs that I love to mess with all day, and that means by 1:00 my bangs fall completely flat and look greasy. This spray brings them all the volume I want and makes them fresh and new.  Overall, I'd say the buy was a success! ~ Cass

Pretty in Gold

Only Gold For Me Top Coat
 Sephora - $9.50

Lately, I've been seeing adorable gold sparkly nails everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I'm normally against glitter; a matte kind of girl. Yet, I think having this kind of confetti on your nails, makes them pop without making you look like a Ke$ha impersonator. However, I'm going to have to do a little investigating for a less expensive nail polish (I can get a manicure for 9.50!) If not I may have to suck it up and splurge a little.

Pies and Parades

Five  things I did this fourth of July weekend:
1. Made my first pie from scratch.
2. Attended my local parade and couldn't hear anything for a while.
3. Fell victim to many mosquitoes while watching fireworks.
4. Went out for ice cream...a couple times.
5. Lost my voice.

Strawberry Fields

My favorite recipes normally are the most simple to make in concept. These "stuffed strawberries" are really about as simple as it gets while still tasting decadently delicious.
Get the recipe here:
The only variations I made to the recipes is cutting the strawberries center in a circle because I find slitting the sides to lead to the cream cheese mixture to slide out. I also used almonds instead of pecans, but that was only due to our lack of the nut.

Great to eat on a hot and humid summer day like today!

The Summer Blues

Now that summer has finally crept out of its hole and is in full bloom , I thought doing a beach trip themed post featuring heavy blue influences would be relevant and fun!

Swimsuit:

Long torso twist-front bandeau tank

J.Crew Bikini Top   $30

J.Crew Bikini Bottom $30
The centerpiece of your beach outfit, a swimsuit has to be something your comfortable in as well as feel amazingly confident. It's the one type of clothing I don't mind digging a little further into my wallet for. Plus these J. Crew swimsuits give off a great beach vibe with their pretty blue undertones.

Pacsun Coverup  - $12.99

There's nothing better than a light, flowy cover up to put over sun-kissed skin after a long day at the beach. As long as it's soft it'll do.

Anthropology Beach Bag - $19

A bag at the beach is a woman's best friend; it can hold
1.Sunscreen - because, unfortunately, nobody can really pull off the "just ran a marathon" look
2.  Snacks- All that beach looking and sun can wear a girl out....and make her craving some serious munchies. Some of my favorite "beach treats" are twizzlers, homemade sandwiches, and fresh peaches.
and most importantly 3. A book. Nothing shouts BEACH more than a good, guilty pleasure read. If it has some romance, its a must read.
This Anthropologie Bag is perfect for fitting all of these things (and probably much more) and has the convenience of being a backpack so if your like me, and have to venture throughout Chicago to get to a beach, this feature will defiantly come in handy.

 Accessories

Forever 21 Round Sunglasses - $5.80

Forever21 hat - $10. 80

Urban Outfitters Shoes - $29.99

I love the look of retro sunglasses, expecially the cat eye style. I also love how their being sold so cheap these days ($5 sunglasses? Yes please!) A straw hat and some cute sandals are just the cherry on top!
I Hope everyone can get down to the beach this Fourth of July weekend and have some relaxation and a good time!

The Adventure Begins...

First off, welcome to The Modern Girl! After spending so much time (a little too much time) lusting over other personal style blogs I thought it was time I made my own. The Modern Girl will differ, however, from most style blogs by showcasing fashion items that are low in cost, for women like myself who are on a tight budget and can't afford to splurge on Chanel bags or $200 jeans. I also hope to feature some clothing styles for women who weren't blessed with awesome metabolisms or runway bodies every now and then. Other items I hope to display are DIY projects, some baking, and maybe the occasional photography.  So here's to hoping this blog is a succesful one!
